Bangunan berarsitektur indah di sudut Jln. Sultan Agung dengan Jln. Ir. H. Djuanda (Dago) itu mencuri perhatian orang-orang yang melintasinya. Kemacetan di jalan itu memberi kesempatan kepada para pengguna jalan untuk menoleh ke arah bangunan yang memperlihatkan streamline. Sederhana, tetapi menawan. Di dinding bagian depan tertera nama bangunan itu, De Drie Kleur (Tiga Warna).
Sejak dua tahun lalu, bangunan itu digunakan sebagai kantor Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional (BTPN). Sebelumnya, bangunan itu pernah digunakan sebagai kantor polisi, bahkan pernah juga dijadikan diskotek.
Melihat keadaannya sekarang, mungkin orang-orang bakal dibuat pangling. Setelah digunakan sebagai bank, bangunan bersejarah itu begitu elok. Padahal, pada tahun-tahun sebelumnya, bangunan itu tak terurus.
DALAM proses perjuangan bangsa Indonesia, De Drie Kleur memiliki arti penting. Soalnya, dari gedung itulah, kabar tentang kemerdekaan Indonesia dikumandangkan ke seantero Kota Bandung.
Bangunan karya arsitek Belanda Albert Frederik Aalbers itu dibangun pada akhir dekade 1930. Pada masa pendudukan Jepang, bangunan itu difungsikan sebagai Kantor Berita Domei. Pada 17 Agustus 1945, Kantor Berita Domei menerima kawat berisi teks proklamasi. Bangunan Drie Kleur menjadi saksi dibacakannya teks proklamasi kemerdekaan Indonesia di Kota Bandung untuk pertama kalinya. Jika pada 2007 bangunan itu tidak direnovasi, barangkali Bandung akan kehilangan bukti sejarah Indonesia. Beruntung, Drie Kleur mendapatkan kembali kemegahannya.
Bangunan yang dibangun pada 1957 ini merupakan pengganti Societeit Concordia yang berubah menjadi Gedung Merdeka pada 1955. Preanger Planters (orang-orang Belanda yang tinggal di perkebunan) yang biasa berkumpul di Societeit Concordia beralih berkumpul di sini.
